EDWARD is a weather-sensitive facade system derived from the Salvinia plant. Salvinia trichome's waterproof function and physical flexibility translated into a solar and an aero sensitive design. This four-legged modular machine can be installed on the surface of a building with simple modules and assembly. The direction of the sunlight and wind allows the matrix of modules to add an ever-changing look to the building with its shape-memory solar cell fabric and a ball-socket joint with the right amount of friction. Each module opens and closes by moving the skeleton and controls the opacity between exterior and interior, manifesting the protection from wind, rain, and visibility.
